January 11th - 20th

Aggies walk the walk 2024 banner

In collaboration with several campus and community partners, USU's Inclusive Excellence is proud to present the first Aggies Walk the Walk week. This is weeklong series of university, department, and student-sponsored events is designed to help us reflect on our civic responsibility — both individually and collectively — toward the common good of every member of the Aggie Family, Cache Valley, and the state of Utah. Join us to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. throughout Aggies Walk the Walk week.

Utah State University is a premier land- and space-grant institution committed to excellence, access, and inclusion. Keeping with this mission, we strive to empower all people to lead successful lives of involvement, innovation, and impact.

Diversity

We celebrate differences in values and beliefs, backgrounds, cultures, and identities and strive to provide a sense of belonging in our campus communities where all Aggies can thrive.

Embrace Civic Responsibility

Being a part of the Aggie Family means that we share a responsibility toward the common good of every member of the community, the university, and the state of Utah.

Human Dignity

We affirm the inherent dignity and value of each individual in our university community and are committed to freedom of expression and respectful dialogue.

“The university is operated for the common good which depends upon the free search for truth and its free exposition. Academic freedom is essential to these purposes and applies to teaching, research, and service… The community also values diversity and respect, without which there can be no collegiality among faculty and students. In addition, the university community values individual rights and freedoms, including the right of each community member to adhere to individual systems of conscience, religion, and ethics. Finally, the university recognizes that with all rights come responsibilities.” (See USU Policy 403)

Aggies Walk the Walk

Register

Students, faculty, staff, and community members (led by USU Athletics) will silently walk from the USU Quad, down the Hello Walk, to the Wayne Estes Center to support MLK week. We do this walk on special occasions: luminary, graduation, and MLK week.

The Walk is also a public way for a public service institution to help us reflect on our civic responsibility—both individually and collectively—toward the common good of every member of the Aggie Family, Cache Valley, and other communities throughout the state of Utah (more on our commitment to civic responsibility can be found in our strategic plan: Aggie Action, objective 3.4).

Once we arrive at the Wayne Estes Center, we will play a 2-minute video highlighting the week’s significance. After the video, we will hear from USU Athletics leadership, USU President, and student leadership on the importance of MLK week at USU (15 to 25 minutes long). We will then encourage people to attend the Aggie Men’s Basketball game.

January 20 @ 2:00pm Utah State Men's Basketball vs Fresno State The USU Men’s basketball team will wear Aggie Walk the Walk t-shirts during warm-ups.
